A Fall From Grace. Mail Order Bride Western Page 13
Though the happenings of the day were terrible, I try to brush off the bad feelings and enjoy the nice thing Josh is doing for me. As he opens the door I can see many people sitting at small tables as young women bustle around delivering meals to the patrons.
Josh sets us near a window and soon our order is taken and we sit and wait for the food. His hand runs over my knee under the table and he leans in close. “You look gorgeous in the dress I bought you. The deep blue brings out your eyes.”
I smile and run my hand over his cheek. “Thank you for that. It was such a nice thing to do. You’re spoiling me already.”
He smiles and kisses my cheek. “I plan to do that for the rest of our lives, sweetheart.”
The door opens and his eyes flash to it. His brow furrows, and he curses under his breath. I look too and see a tall, dark haired man making his way to Josh, his eyes full of sorrow.
Josh stands and shakes the man’s hand. “Hey, Jason. This is Sarah, my wife.”
Jason takes my hand, leaving a kiss on top. “It’s nice to meet you. Josh has told me so much about you. And I’m deeply sorry for what my little sister did.”
Josh goes pale. “I told her not to tell anyone.” He sits back down and gestures for Jason to join us.
“Always protecting her,” Jason says as he pulls an envelope from his pocket. “My father said to give you this” He pushes it across the table to Josh.
Josh picks it up and opens it. His eyebrows dart up to the top of his head. He looks at Jason. “Where did you get this?”
“It’s money that our grandmother left for Beth. Pa wants you to have it to help you rebuild. Also, you have his help as well as mine and John’s to get it built. We’re all sorry as hell about what Beth did, and thankful as hell if you won’t let this get out.”
Josh pushes the envelope back towards Jason who puts his hand out, stopping him. “I can’t take her money, Jason. I’ll figure this out on my own. And never worry about me saying a thing about her doing that. The words will never pass my lips, nor my wife’s.”
Jason looks at me with a smile. “Tell him to take the money, will ya?”
I don’t know what to say. Jason has no idea of what Josh did to his sister to make her so crazy. “I’ll have to stand by whatever it is my husband wants.”
Jason shrugs. “I see. That’s okay.” He takes the envelope back and puts it in his pocket again. “My family will make this right, Josh.” He gets up and leaves as we sit in silence.
“Too bad you can’t tell him what you did,” I say. “Then they wouldn’t feel so obligated to fix things.”
Josh nods and the door opens again. We both look up to find Richard coming in the door and scanning the room until he finds us. Straight over he comes and now it’s me who’s cursing quietly.
“Fancy meeting you here,” he says and sits down as if invited. A small box wrapped in pink paper he places before me. “Happy birthday, darling.”
Josh takes in a deep breath and leans forward. “What is it you think you’re doing, Richard?”
“Giving my dear friend a birthday present. Is there anything wrong with that, Joshua?” Richard asks as if he’s very sincere, which he isn’t.
I shake my head. “You’ve never managed to give me one before. It always seemed we were broken up during gift-giving holidays and my birthday. Odd you should feel it necessary to give me one now.”
“Just open it, dear friend,” he says with a smile.
The man is devastatingly handsome and I notice several women openly gawking at him. I push the little box back to him. “I have all I need, Richard. Thank you for the sentiment, but my husband has given me all I could ever want or dream of.”
Josh smiles and looks at Richard. “You snoozed, Richard, and you lost. Sorry, old boy.”
The door opens again. Josh and I look to see who’s coming in and both of us gasp as Beth walks in and right towards us. Her blonde hair is in tight ringlets and she has on a light blue dress. She looks pretty and I’m suddenly feeling a ton of jealousy. “What’s she doing here?” I ask.
Richard turns to see who has us both in such a state and I see the desire fill his eyes the minute he sees her. “Who is this little tasty morsel?” he mumbles.
Beth stumbles as Richard turns to look at her. Her eyes go from Josh to Richard and she slows her pace. “Hi,” she says to Richard. Her eyes go to Josh’s. “Who’s your new friend, Josh?”
Josh squeezes my knee under the table. “This is a friend of my wife’s. Beth this is Richard.”
Richard stands and takes her hand in his, leaving a long kiss on top of it. “Beth, the pleasure is all mine. Please sit.” He pulls out the only chair left at the small table and it seems my birthday dinner has been taken over by unwanted guests.
Josh and I watch as Beth can’t take her eyes off the gorgeous man. Sure, I know he’s an arrogant ass, but he’s a thing of beauty and he seems smitten with her in an instant. I also notice that he takes the little box I pushed back to him and puts it in his pocket.
The young waitress comes back with our drinks, Josh ordered us Champagne. “Oh, you have added to your table,” she says as she places the small, glasses down in front of Josh and I.
Richard looks at the waitress with a devastating smile. “I’ll be paying for this little gathering on my friend’s birthday. Please bring the bottle and maybe a few more.” He looks at Beth. “You will stay, won’t you?”
Her eyes light up and a smile flows over her entire body. Then she looks at Josh. “Can I?”
He looks at me and I nod. They seem to be enthralled with one another, it’ll get them off our backs. “Please do stay, Beth. It would be an honor to have you dine with us on my birthday.”
Richard takes Beth’s hand and asks, “Do you like steak? Oh, listen to me. I mean, I’m ordering you a steak, rare. You’ll love it.” He looks at the waitress. “Two steaks, blood rare.”
She nods and rushes off. Josh leans over and whispers, “This may be the best thing that’s ever happened for us.”
I smile and squeeze his hand in agreement.
JOSH
Only three months after we married and we finally are moving into our new cabin. Jason and his family wouldn’t take no for an answer and took it upon themselves to buy the wood and build our cabin. I helped once I realized it was futile to argue with them about it.
Richard took Beth back to Pittsburg after they married in a small ceremony here in Deadwood. She looked happier than I had ever seen her and Sarah and I wished them the very best.
My wife sits in a rocking chair on our front porch knitting a baby blanket for our first born, due in about six months. I carry in the last chair for our kitchen table and lean down to kiss my wife’s cute little head as I go by.
“This is the last thing. You should come inside and get naked, wife.”
With a giggle, she gets up and follows me inside. I barely get the chair put down before she throws her arms around me. I pick her up and carry her to our bedroom. Beth’s family bought more wood than I originally had, making us a three-bedroom cabin.
White sheets Sarah’s made our bed with and a thick quilt she made herself. My wife is quite the homemaker. And she knows how to please me in more ways than one.
The buttons on my shirt burst away as she yanks it open. I laugh as I toss her on our new bed. She bounces and leans back on her elbows. “Come take me, deputy.”
Her skirt I push up as I run my hands over the soft skin of her legs. “First, I have to taste you, sweetheart.”
She lies back and grabs two handfuls of the quilt. “I’m ready.”
I yank her panties down and press my lips to her sweet spot. She arches up to me as she moans. “Will I ever get tired of this, Josh? God, it feels so good!”
Little strokes I give her already swelling clit. “I hope not, darlin’ It’s something I’ve come to love doing to you. And now that we’re out her where no one can hear. I plan on making you scream with pleasure every sing
le night.”
“Thank God we’re out here then,” she says with labored breaths. “I’m just about to lose control.”
I run my tongue up and down her folds. One finger I push inside her, finding her wet with want for me. The low moans get louder and she arches up to me.
A little nibble to her pearl and then I suck on it and she falls apart, letting herself scream my name. I pull my pants off and kick off my boots as I climb her body, leaving her dress on.
I push my hard erection into her. Her hands run around me, pulling me tight to her. “Jesus, Josh. Take me!”
Hard strokes I make as she wraps her legs around me. “Unbutton your top. I need to feel your breasts on my chest.”
She does as I say and soon I’m rubbing her blossoming breasts against my chest. “Harder,” she says.
The woman always want’s it harder and I love that about her. I move faster and harder, knowing her next command will be that. Her moan lets me know she’s happy I did it without her having to ask.
Sarah’s body meets mine with every stroke. I press my lips to hers and she runs her tongue along mine. Every stroke I make she makes along my tongue.
Her fingers roam over my naked back then her nails rake it. She’s about to lose it and I slow on purpose. She pulls her mouth from mine. “Do not tease me!”
I chuckle at how demanding she is. It pleases me in a way I never imagined it would. Hard, deep strokes I pound into her as she moans with pleasure. Her lips touch my neck. Her teeth graze it then bite down hard.
It never fails to send me straight into the orgasm she’s intended it to. She follows quickly with me and we rock until it's all over. Until every bit of my fluid is inside her. Only then does she release the tight grip her legs have around my waist.
We look into each other’s eyes. Simultaneously we say, “I love you.”

Sweet, beautiful mail order bride Merla flees one horrible life in Wichita only to find herself in another horrible one in Dodge. Her husband-to-be is not the kind loving man his letters portrayed him to be. But Merla’s rescuer John “Mac” McElroy who is more handsome than handsome should be. When he doesn’t like to see a beautiful woman abused, he and his three brothers take her home to his mother. At McElroy’s Bend Merla finds more than safety and comfort, she finds blistering passion she never knew existed. And she also finds the man she traveled to Dodge to spend the rest of her life with.
Chapter One
Merla gripped the rig, trying to avoid the blow of the backhand but keep her seat on the rig. Her cheek was so bruised that even movement pained her. Everything that she did angered this man. And there was no escaping him. She had an answered an ad in the matrimonial news, fell in love with his letters and came west to escape a dreary fate.
Only to land straight into one. But she had not yet married Baxter Wallace. As soon as she stepped off of the stage, he was annoyed by everything she did and he showed her with the back of his hand. If it didn’t let up or if something didn’t give, she was going to simply walk out to the Prairie and die.
Merla’s vision was a blur. She didn't know whether it was because she squinted as his hand landed her face or whether her face had simply swollen. Maybe he knocked her silly. But she only saw the public walking past her in a blur. He hit her once more and she went flying.
It was the most dream-like flight she could imagine. It felt exactly as though she were being lifted and gently carried. When she opened her eyes, she saw the clear blue sky and sunshine, and she was riding in the back of a rig. Merla figured she was dead and that she had crossed over into heaven on the way to her own burial.
But then she realized her head was being cradled in a man’s lap. And that there were men in the rig and riding along side of the rig.
“Shhh,” he told her. “Easy.”
Merla’s head knocked gently against his rock-hard thigh. The sun was warm on her face and comforting. She breathed cleansing breaths, the first anxiety free ones that she had drawn since she arrived Dodge.
“We are almost there,” said the voice gently.
Merla hadn’t remembered Wallace’s voice being so smooth or his presence being a source of comfort for her in any way.
“What’s ma going to say when you bring this woman home? Have you thought of that?” asked another.
“I’ll handle it,” insisted the one whose lap Merla laid in. “She’s mine. And I’m keeping
her.”
Chapter Two
For the first day or so on McElroy’s Bend were an experience in sound. But Merla seemed to see with her eyes. A feisty sprite of a woman fussed over her, laying cool wet cloths over her head and ladling broth in her moth.
“She doing better?” asked the honey voice who cared for Merla all the way in from Dodge.
“Yes,” said the feisty woman reluctantly. “Pretty soon she’ll have to go Mac, It ain’t right for an unmarried woman to be on a place with four unmarried men. People will talk as if they don’t already.”
Merla heard the sound of a kiss and the smile in the honeyed-voice -- Mac’s honeyed voice.
“Thank you, ma,” said Mac. “I’ll check in on you two later.” “Thank you,” murmured Merla.
She opened her eyes and regarded the faces of her two caretakers. “What am I doing here and who are you?” she asked.
“I am Fiona McElroy,” said the feisty woman. “This is my son Mac. John McElroy. But we call him Mac.”
Mac was a handsome man. It might have been the first sign that Merla knew she was not quite right in the head because she seemed to be fixed on his extraordinary face.
“Why am I here? I got off the stage and,” began Merla.
The recollection of Wallace’s back hand stressed Merla out instantly. Her head throbbed and her stomach was sick.
“Easy,” said Fiona. “I just got it so you kept everything down. Calm yourself now.” “Leave it to you ma, to order someone to be calm,” said Mac.
Mac got down on one knee to talk to Merla directly. He took her hand in his. A pulse traveled through her and warmed her. She could not help but study his perfectly shaped blue eyes.
“You rest now. We’ll talk about what’s what when you’re feeling better. Maybe tomorrow,” he said. “Ma here will take real good care of you.”
He climbed to his feet.
“And Merla, you’re safe. No one is ever going to hit you again. You have my word,” he said before he tipped a phantom hat and left.
The next time Merla awoke she felt completely refreshed. She sat up in her bed. She got a proper look around her borrowed room. Everything was crisp and square and tidy. She could not have asked for a better place to convalesce in. But she still didn’t understand. What happened.
“Well there you are,” said Mac with a smile in his voice as he entered the room. He drew up a chair beside her bed.
“Good morning,” he said grinning. “I mean good evening. Morning for you.”
“Hi,” Merla said shyly.
“Your swelling had gone down. Some of the color too,” he said.
She touched her face. It was still somewhat tender.
“Baxter Wallace tried to knock the pretty off of you but he didn’t wear that out one bit. “
Merla blushed a hot and powerful blush. Hopefully whatever bruises she might have would hide that.
“How long have I been here?” Merla asked, changing the subject.
She didn’t take compliments well. She also thought she knew how long she had been there but she wasn’t sure if her count was accurate.
“You have been here for most of the week. Me and my brothers brought you here when we were in town last. Ma nursed you night and morning. We tried to take turns. When you slept peacefully, she went off to bed. I believe
you may be the first person ever to wear her out,” Mac laughed.
Merla threw back the covers on her bed, wanting to go do something. She hadn’t realized that they had undressed her. She was down in to her bloomers and camisole. It was his tortured look that made her stop and look. She quick crossed her front side with her arms and hustled back under the covers.
“You’re better but you still need to go slow,” he said. “Where you off to? Never to use the necessary?”
She did at that. But she couldn’t very well go out dressed in her underwear. He knew that too and he removed a calico dress hanging from a hook.
“Here you are. Here’s one of my sister’s dresses. Actually ma wears it now and again but it’ll fit you,” said Mac. “It’ll be easier to get around in than those fancy clothes you had on.”
“If this fits your ma, it won’t fit me,” laughed Merla. “I am way bigger than she is. She’s tiny.” He shook his head and laughed softly.
“Well no you’re not. You’re exactly the same size as she is. But you have another thing in common with her and that is you both think you’re much bigger than you are. I’ll leave you to dress. Holler if you need help and I’ll walk you out.”
Chapter Three
The weather was absolutely perfect outdoors. The sky could not have been bluer nor the air clearer. Dodge had been such a filthy dirty stinking town. McElroy’s Bend was so lovely. He very protectively took her arm.
Merla was a little weak from laying in bed all week but she was fine. She didn’t want to complain though. It was not every day she got to be escorted by such a handsome man as he. It like the two of them communicated with each other without talking, when they were near one another.
Mac guided her to the outhouse and waited outside. It was a little more intimacy than she was ready for. Merla was a stiff Easterner, she knew that. She had already been told on the travel out and by Wallace. They could tell by her posture and her sour look. Wallace said she was sour.
